The Responsibility to Protect and its Limits and Untapped Opportunities

The international scientific conference
Responsibility to Protect in Theory and Practice, held on 11 and 12 May
2023 at the Faculty of Law of the University of Ljubljana, marked the tenth anniversary of the launch
of the series of bien- nial international
interdisciplinary scientific conferences on the principle of R2P at the Faculty
of Law of the University of Ljubljana, which brings together theoreticians, researchers and practitioners from various fields relevant to the
implementation of R2P from all over the world. It was held under the honorary
patronage of the President of the Republic
of Slovenia, Nataša
Pirc Musar, who in her opening
address expressed the strong support
of the Republic of Slove- nia to R2P and stressed that the
promotion and protection of human rights transcends national borders. These R2P
conferences have made a significant contribution to positioning Slovenia as a
leading supporter of activities that help protect populations from genocide, war crimes, crimes
against humanity and ethnic
cleansing.
