The rule-of-law state is a democratic state based on the division of powers and in which the functioning of the state bodies is bound by law. And although the legal regulations are passed by the representative body within which the politicians decide, it is essential they have the possibility and the desire to find lawyers who can advise them professionally.
The rule-of-law state is a democratic state based on the division of powers and in which the functioning of the state bodies is bound by law. And although the legal regulations are passed by the representative body within which the politicians decide, it is essential they have the possibility and the desire to find lawyers who can advise them professionally. The same applies to the executive branch. Although it brings political decisions, it will in the long run succeed only if they are in line with fundamental legal values and principles. From the very beginning, the Faculty of Law of the University of Ljubljana has been spatially related to the three pillars of the rule of law state in a symbolic way. The contribution is a speech the author had at the celebration in honor of the 100th anniversary of the confirmation of the People’s Government of the State of Slovenian, Croats, and Serbs (SHS), i.e. the first Slovene government.
Key words: rule of law state, democratic state, Slovenia, faculty of law, University of Ljubljana, State of Slovenian, Croats, and Serbs.
