The editorial offers a reflection on the purpose of the law and the difference
between how it is experienced by the individual at the beginning of one’s career
and later on when a person is faced with different professional experiences.
The author writes about his experience in politics, which changed his view
of law and distanced him from his initial idealistic naivety. He focuses on the
case of the arbitration ruling between Slovenia and Croatia and the political
circumstances that affect the fate of the case. In this regard, he emphasizes
that when legal arguments are being challenged by political, sometimes even
ideological arguments, we approach a dangerous point when an argumentative
and reasoned discussion on this issue is no longer possible. However, as jurists
we have to insist in the name of the rule of law and the justice, he concludes.

Key words: Association of the Slovenian Jurists’ Societies, speech, Days of the
Slovenian Jurists 2018, law, rule of law, right, justice.
