Law and Revolution

Pravnik, Ljubljana 2025, Vol. 80 (142), Nos. 7-8

To celebrate its centenary, the three-day international scientific conference Law and (R)evolution 1920–2020: Past Experiences, Future Challenges, was held at the Faculty of Law at the University of Ljubljana in March 2020. The conference title was inspired by the inaugural lecture delivered by Professor Leonid Pitamic at the newly established faculty. Most speakers came from abroad and discussed various broader aspects of the current legal situation and the problems it poses. The book Law and Revolution, edited by Matej Accetto, Katja Škrubej (both from the Faculty of Law in Ljubljana) and Joseph H. H. Weiler (a professor at New York University), contains fourteen expanded versions of papers presented at the conference. This beautiful and dignified book pays tribute to the centenary of the Faculty of Law at the University of Ljubljana. The diversity of topics and the thoroughness of their treatment give the book lasting value, providing readers with interesting and useful insights. One of the collection’s special qualities is the excellent English translation of Pitamic’s inaugural lecture, to which many of the authors refer to in their contributions. This has elevated this exceptional text to the global stage of legal thought and ideas, while also linking the origins of the law faculty with its cur rent integration into the international arena.
Key words: law, revolution, conference, University of Ljubljana Faculty of Law, Leonid Pitamic, conference proceedings (volume).
